Water Pressure Regulator

A water pressure regulator is a plumbing valve that regulates the water pressure coming through the valve.  It is used where the incoming water pressure is too high and needs to be reduced.  The reasons why you would want to install a water pressure regulator are many.

Conserves and Saves Water
A normal household uses water pressure from 40 lbs per square inch to 60 lbs.  If your house has pressure of 100 lbs, then a lot of water is being wasted since you don't really need that much water coming out of the faucets and shower heads.  A water pressure regulator reducing the water pressure from 100 lbs to 50 lbs saves 33% of the water being used.

Increases Life of Appliances and Plumbing
High water pressure shortens the life of your appliances.  It can cause leaky pipes, leaky water heaters, and water damage to appliances such as your dishwashers and washers.  High water pressure can cause water hammer where the high velocity of the water in the plumbing flows though several pipe bends or comes to a sudden stop, such as from shutting off a faucet, and bounces back.  This causes banging pipes, noise, and possible damage to fixtures and appliances.

As you can see, a water pressure has many benefits that save the user money in water costs and maintenance costs.  Water pressure regulators are inexpensive to buy and not difficult to install.  You can install one on your main water pipe to your building and start saving money immediately.
